Planning your trip to Mexico

What is there to do in Mexico for food lovers?

Mexico is one of the world’s great culinary destinations. Its cuisine is recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. With Mexico Foodie Tours you can taste street tacos and market classics in Mexico City, visit family-run mezcal distilleries and agave fields in Oaxaca, and discover the Maya roots of Yucatecan cuisine.

Beyond food, our experiences connect you with local markets, traditional cooks, artisan workshops and cultural landmarks, like the Teotihuacan pyramids, Mitla, Hierve el Agua and Uxmal.

Is it safe to travel to Mexico?

Yes. Millions of travelers visit Mexico every year for its food, culture and hospitality. On our tours you’re accompanied by bilingual local guides who know each neighborhood, market and route, so you can explore comfortably and focus on the experience.

We run small-group tours and work directly with trusted local cooks and producers. As anywhere, we recommend standard travel common sense, and our team is always available to help you plan a smooth, worry-free trip.

Where does Mexico Foodie Tours operate?

We run food and cultural tours in three of Mexico’s richest culinary regions: Mexico City, Oaxaca and Yucatán.

Each destination offers a distinct experience: from the capital’s street food and fine-dining scene, to Oaxaca’s mezcal and Zapotec traditions, to the ancestral Maya flavors of the Yucatán Peninsula.

Our Guides & Tour Experience

Are the tours guided in English? Are guides bilingual?

Yes. Our tours are led by bilingual local guides who speak English and Spanish, so you can fully understand the stories, history and culinary traditions behind every stop.

Our guides are locals who know their cities and communities intimately, from the best market stalls to the cultural background of each dish, which makes the experience both informative and genuinely personal.

Who leads the tours? are they local guides?

Always. Local guides lead every tour, and chefs, traditional cooks, historians, farmers and artisans often shape the experience too, sharing their own stories and knowledge directly.

This is what turns our tours from simple tastings into real cultural journeys, with authentic interaction at every stop.

Who are the tours for?

Our tours are designed for travelers who want an authentic Mexican food experience: curious eaters, couples, families and small groups who prefer real local spots over tourist traps. Plus companies looking for private corporate culinary experiences.

Most tours run in small groups for a more personal, relaxed feel.

Do you offer private and corporate experiences?

Yes. Alongside our small-group tours, we design private food tours and corporate culinary experiences in Mexico — ideal for teams, special occasions or travelers who prefer a fully tailored experience with personalized attention.

Pricing, Inclusions & Booking

Is transportation included in the Mexico tours?

It depends on the tour. Many of our experiences, especially day trips and tours that visit sites outside the city center, such as Mitla and Hierve el Agua in Oaxaca, or Uxmal and Maya villages in Yucatán, include transportation as part of the all-included package.

Walking tours within a city center may not require it. Each tour’s dedicated page lists exactly what’s included, so we recommend checking the specific tour you’re interested in.

What's included in the price of a food tour? How much do tours cost?

Our tours are all-included experiences: the price covers food and drink tastings at each stop, a bilingual local guide, and the activities listed for each specific tour.

Experiences start from US$90 and vary depending on destination, duration and inclusions. You’ll find the exact price and full inclusions on each tour page.

How do I book a food tour in Mexico?

You can book directly on each tour page, or contact us by WhatsApp at +52 55 3115-3995 or by email at sales@mexicofoodietours.com. If you’d like help choosing the right experience for your trip, our team is happy to give you a recommendation.

Traditional Cooks & Culinary Heritage

Who are the traditional cooks featured in your tours?

Many of our experiences are built around Mexico’s cocineras tradicionales, traditional women cooks, several of them recognized by UNESCO, who prepare regional dishes using ancestral methods and native ingredients.

In Oaxaca, for example, certain tours include a home-cooked lunch with a UNESCO Traditional Cook. These cooks are not a backdrop to the experience; they lead it, sharing the recipes and techniques that keep Mexican gastronomy alive.

What is the Círculos de Sabor program?

Círculos de Sabor is one of our social-impact initiatives. Through it, traditional cooks lead their own gastronomic experiences and share income directly from the tours, helping sustain their craft and their families.

It’s part of our commitment to community-based tourism, where the people who preserve Mexico’s culinary heritage benefit directly from sharing it.

How does Mexico Foodie Tours support traditional women cooks?

We’re deeply committed to supporting traditional women cooks and the next generation of culinary leaders. Through programs like Círculos de Sabor and our New Generation of Traditional Cooks Program, we invest in training, certification and professional development for women who keep Mexico’s culinary heritage alive.

We also promote fair pay, long-term collaboration, and visibility for women entrepreneurs and community projects.

Responsible Tourism & UN Goals

How does Mexico Foodie Tours meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals?

We are a socially responsible tour operator working in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

We share tourism income directly with local cooks, producers and artisans (supporting decent work and reduced inequalities), empower women entrepreneurs and traditional women cooks (advancing gender equality), and preserve Mexican gastronomy as Intangible Cultural Heritage for future generations.

In short, we design our model so that tourism generates real economic opportunity for local families and communities.

What does "responsible" or "ethical" tourism mean for your tours?

For us, responsible tourism means the communities who share their culture also benefit from it. Our tours are community-based: income goes directly to local cooks and producers, we focus on fair pay and long-term partnerships, and we work to keep cultural traditions alive instead of turning them into a product.

It’s tourism that honors tradition, supports local talent and protects cultural heritage.
