Teotitlan del Valle – Textiles and Wax Candles
Oaxacan textiles are renowned for their vibrant colors and intricate designs, crafted through traditional methods like backstrap weaving and hand embroidery. These textiles, including rugs and clothing, feature distinctive patterns reflecting the diverse indigenous cultures of the region. Artisans use natural dyes, adding cultural significance. These handcrafted pieces not only showcase artistic prowess but also contribute to preserving Oaxaca’s cultural identity.

Casa Viviana – A Journey into Traditional Candle Making

Step into the world of Doña Viviana, a revered Grand Master of Oaxaca Folk Art, and discover the centuries-old tradition of handcrafted candles. At her family’s workshop, you’ll witness the meticulous process of creating these exquisite candles, which involves carefully dipping wicks over 400 times in melted wax, layering them to perfection.

Each candle is then beautifully decorated by Doña Viviana herself, a skill passed down through generations. These candles play a vital role in Oaxacan traditions, illuminating churches, home altars, and festive celebrations such as Christmas posadas, Day of the Dead, and Semana Santa.
