Our Values

Mexico Foodie Tours was born as a social project to promote gender equity within indigenous communities in Mexico. Since childhood, we learned that "the kitchen is the heart of the home," and it is mainly mothers who keep culinary traditions alive, spending nearly 9 hours a day cooking. However, even though half of all gastronomy graduates are women, there is still a long way to go for them to shine among the most recognized chefs. In Mexico, out of 18 Michelin stars, only 2 have been awarded to women.

Choosing us means choosing a commitment to tradition and social justice. Traditional female cooks have been the guardians of our culinary heritage, bringing Mexico international recognition, such as UNESCO's 2010 designation of Mexican gastronomy as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Yet, their wisdom is at risk if we don’t value it as it deserves.
